Groundbreaking Food Safety Case in America

A deadly salmonella outbreak six years ago was traced to peanut butter made by a Georgia company. Friday, a jury convicted its former owner of federal charges in a groundbreaking case stemming which marks the first federal felony conviction for a company executive in a food safety case.

The defendants were found guilty on multiple counts linked to intentionally shipping out salmonella-laced peanut products.  Jeff Almers mother died four days before Christmas in 2008 after ingesting the peanut products.  After the verdict, he said that the trial was emotional.   “I don’t think these people are devils,” he said, “but they let greed take over their morals.”
